2016-2017 National Elementary Honor Society

The Saint Ambrose Chapter of the NEHS is open to qualifying members of 5th and 6th grade students of Saint Ambrose.  Inductions take place in January each school year and involve the analysis of the previous 2 quarters' grades.  Students are invited to join based upon the five ideals listed below in the 2nd Quarter of the school year.  After a member is inducted, all information will be located in their Google Classroom. If you have any questions, please email Mrs. Michelsen at KMichelsen@stambrosecs.org.

What does it take to qualify to be a member of the National Elementary Honor Society?

Membership in the National Elementary Honor Society is one of the highest honors that can be awarded to an elementary student. The NEHS has worked hard to bring the accomplishments of outstanding students to the attention of parents, teachers, peers, and community. Chapters across the nation strive to give practical meaning to the Society’s goals of scholarship, leadership, service, character, and citizenship.

These five ideals have been considered as the basis for selection. No student is inducted simply because of a high academic average. The National Junior Honor Society strives to recognize the total student: one who excels in all these areas. The standards used for selection are:

Scholarship: over a 90% cumulative average at the end of the school year.

Leadership, Service, Character, and Citizenship-as demonstrated by activities and teacher recommendations.

Membership, however, is more than an honor. It carries with it more than certain privileges. It incurs a responsibility and an obligation to demonstrate those outstanding qualities that resulted in the student's selection.
