Computer Class
Mrs. Michele Burke joined our staff in 2018 bringing with her years of experience in Kindergarten thru 8th grade computer education. Her expertise in Microsoft Office, Paint, and a multitude of additional programs has breathed life into our technology curriculum here at Saint Ambrose. She integrates lessons taught in the classroom supplementing the instruction of the homeroom/subject area teacher. Coding classes, typing skills, and expanding the use of Microsoft skills for all students are just a sampling of computer lessons at Saint Ambrose. In 2023 our lab received an update along with a facelift as we prepare our students for both PCs and laptops.
Library Class
Today's library is far more than a place to check out books. While students still get to enjoy a great story and take an AR test, they also dive into the world of digital media. In Library class, students learn to find credible research resources, conduct class projects, and even produce our school's daily morning news, which is broadcast from the library to the entire school!
Music Class
|
Music classes are a vital part of daily life at St. Ambrose, enriching students' education alongside their core academic subjects. Studying music not only supports cognitive development but also nurtures creativity and provides a meaningful outlet for self-expression.
As a central element of school life, music serves many purposes, including spiritual expression—each Wednesday, students lift their voices in praise during Mass, fulfilling the call of Psalm 105:2: “Sing to him, sing praise to him.” In the classroom, students explore the three fundamental elements of music: melody, harmony, and rhythm. Singing plays a key role in helping students understand melody, with the first half of the year focused on vocal practice. During this time, students learn choir pieces and prepare for performances such as the Christmas show. As the year progresses, students will also engage with harmonic instruments like the guitar, piano, and ukulele to deepen their understanding of harmony. In addition, rhythm is explored through hands-on experience with percussion instruments, including hand drums and drum sets. These activities help students grasp the essential role rhythm plays in music. |
PE Class
From organized sports to fun games, PE is always a period our students can expend their energy. PK3-8th grades all spend time with the beloved Coach where they learn the rules of their favorite sports, sportsmanship, and how to play as a team. PE is held twice a week and if a class misses a day due to an early release or a day off, the homeroom teachers are sure to hear them complain! Field Day is second to none and our sports teams are gaining notoriety throughout their league for their talent, large cheering section, and Christ-like behavior.
Spanish Class
All students, from Pre-K 3 through 8th grade, are educated in the foreign language of Spanish. Students receive instruction two times per week. Our instructor, Mrs. Liliana Lowe, leads the younger students through songs, games, and direct instruction. Students in grades 3rd grade thru 8th grade receive interactive instruction. Middle school students have a textbook curriculum in order to facilitate their eventual succession into high school Spanish. Our Spanish program is comprehensive and progressive as we prepare our students for their acquisition of this vital second language. Additionally our Spanish teacher hosts our annual International Day, a family favorite event!
